With the lure in predatory fish

From the editor. In 1948, the publishing house of the all-Russian society of nature protection published a book by M. N. St. Nicholas “With the lure to predatory fish.” Surprisingly, in these hard post-war years, written books about fishing. But surprise already at the first meeting and more. Much of what is understood by the fishermen a century ago about fishing on the spoon from the ice, is relevant today. So we begin to publish excerpts from this book. We hope that this publication will be interesting to our readers.

lesnina is a separate type of fishing, used since time immemorial anglers that feed a passion for individual gear. We are used to trolling for perch and catch it sometimes in large quantities, but in addition to perch can blesnet and pike. If to look deeper into this issue, there are still a number of fish species, which can with great success to catch a minnow. Such fish include: perch, IDE, Chub, trout, grayling, roach and sometimes very often the ruff.As people come to winter fishing ice fish, now hard to say, but it is safe to assume that this method was a direct and logical development of catching fish on live bait. The desire to replace the fragile live bait, artificial and permanent, as well as the pursuit of activity – tahkovuorentie the cause of the appearance of the spinners.

In the process of development of this method of fishing was found that it is not necessary to fake minnow just under the fish and the predator takes well to the spinners, not like fish. This extremely interesting question has served as the subject of the most heated discussions and observations inquisitive anglers seeking to determine the conditions conducive to better fish catches.

In the study of system and colour of lures was found that predatory fish are actively grabbing greed and spinners of various colors and shapes. You can often see how the two anglers that have different shape and color spinners, was caught the same amount of bass and with foam at a mouth argued with each other the advantages of one of the spinners in front of the other.

However, one can observe the phenomenon of a different order. The same good trolling fish takes unevenly: yesterday she took it greedily, and today she managed to catch only a few small perch. Reasons for poor fish in such cases remain unclear, and the angler takes a lot of perseverance to perfectly understand this “fish whim.”

In the present work is an attempt to systematize the available material, but this does not mean that it is possible to find irrefragable answers to all questions, and especially associated with the “moods” of the fish. Many issues still remain unclear.

Ice fish biting in exactly the same way as with the other ways of catching the bait, there is good and bad, and we should have no excessive illusions about some ambitious winter catches.

We judge the quality of fish by the number of perch out of one hole. The maximum catch, which are known to us, – 220 perch weighing about 20 pounds; then 116 bass – 17 pounds. In the second case was a larger perch.

The normal size of 3 to 5 pounds, 40-60 pieces per day (15-20 holes); 3-4 perch from one hole. But there are cases when the three punched holes take only one perch, and sometimes even worse: finding the fish, sounding the hole by hole and no perch. Often in the punched hole will achieve two or three “taps”, and the perch will not take any.

I must say that the best catches are observed in early winter when the ice thickness does not exceed 20 centimeters, and in the spring, beginning in March. When the ice is thin, bass is much easier to find than thick ice. In thin ice you can not save on the hole, from the first ice usually punch them a few dozen a day and some are a lot of perch. At this time, if the hole is generally perch, he immediately rushes to the sinking lure, and often even does not allow the angler to measure the depth of a spoon. At the beginning of winter he takes eagerly, properly and reliably pinpoint when potice of spinning up.

When the ice becomes thick, more than 50 centimeters, it is necessary to save energy and use the old holes, and new embossing only in the most secure locations. This method of fishing usually brings small prey. Rare in the old hole can be found 2-3 perches; mostly “used” holes bass absolutely does not take. But it’s not a rule, and therefore it is not necessary to completely abandon control over the old holes. Sometimes old wells get five good perch and sometimes catch only one, but big perch.

Great importance is the state of the weather and especially the wind direction. It is noticed that the North wind biting in General is very bad. About the winds of other directions to say this is impossible.

About the temperature of the air is nothing particular to say, and the question of when is the best time for catching perch, during frost or in thaw, is the subject of endless disputes.

Sometimes even in cold weather of 30 degrees perch caught well, and it so happens that in the thaw caught even better. At the same time, there are cases when in the thaw and frost perch is absolutely not caught, and for a whole day sometimes with great difficulty caught about a dozen perch.

Careful recording of catches and conditions during fishing often do not lead to certain conclusions and generalizations, so they are contradictory. These conflicting readings, perhaps, are the reason that angler, going fishing, can’t say anything definite about the upcoming catch. Yet it should be noted that the main reason a good catch first of all is a good choice of place for fishing. Every pond should be explored. To know where are the catches, check out these places myself, and when one of the planned places reveals a failure, then rather move on to another place.
